Since 2012, Skyblivion has been in development, which aims to recreate the entirety of Oblivion using the Skyrim engine, and recently, the team has released some new screenshots from the full conversion mod. These new images show a rather moody interior, with a Khajiit stealthily moving about, though it’s not quite clear exactly which location is being shown. In general, it’s looking pretty impressive.

Sadly, there still doesn’t appear to be any release date yet, but the Skyblivion team do give update notifications every so often. With it now in its tenth year of development, many may be hoping that it’s coming close to completion. What is known, however, is that it will be 100% free as and when it does get released, though fans will need official copies of both Oblivion and Skyrim. It will also be “modular,” which means players will get to decide which specific components they want to install.
From its humble beginnings all those years ago, the development of Skyblivion has been an interesting one so far, from it originally being a tech demo, to now having a whole team dedicated to its full creation. These new screenshots show that there is still progress being made, and this only teases things further for those who have been waiting for updates. Hopefully word will come soon about a possible launch window.
While fans are getting impatient over Elder Scrolls 6, many are still getting a lot of mileage out of Skyrim and even older games in the series. Skyblivion has the chance to introduce Oblivion to new audiences, breathe some new life into it, and showcase the immense dedication that it takes to engage in a project of this magnitude. In any case, it’s certainly exciting for those who are waiting for it to finally drop.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
