On Twitter, Silent Hill screenwriter Roger Avary confirmed to fans that he wouldn’t be working on the new movie. Rely on Horror editor CJ Melendez asked Avary if he would be working on the film and he responded with a short “no.” Twitch streamer Nubzombie also asked Avary if he would be working on the Silent Hill film or on the new Fatal Frame movie and the screenwriter said “no” again. It’s unclear if Avary was asked and turned it down or if Gans and Hadida had always planned to find another writer for the film.

Fans of the Silent Hill series will likely be disappointed by this news. The Silent Hill movie from 2006 has been called one of the best video game movies in history by fans and critics and Avary’s writing is an important part of that. The list of good video game movies may not be very long, but if fans like the first Silent Hill movie, there is just more reason to get the same team to make a new one.
Avary may not be working on the new movie, but fans will be hoping that the production team can make a high quality film without them. The Silent Hill series has been going through a difficult spell after Hideo Kojima’s game, Silent Hills, was canceled. The cancellation of that game means that a new Silent Hill game hasn’t been released since 2012. Fans are excited about a new Silent Hill release and will want the movie’s creators to do well.
There are rumors that Konami is developing two new Silent Hill games and the company has confirmed that it is trying to listen to fans when planning more for the series.
