Uploading the file to Nexus Mods yesterday, user Mirci33 has created an add-on for Skyrim which introduces something that is perhaps better suited for the likes of Fallout, guns. Not just a handful of guns, either, but around 203 of the long range weapons. Everything from pistols, to shotguns, to rifles, and even flammable weapons are available to be sourced in-game. It should be stated at this stage that this mod is only available for the Anniversary Edition and Special Edition versions of Skyrim.

It should also be noted that the “Modern Weapons” add-on does not allow players to simply buy or even find guns lying around the region. Instead, players must use Skyrim’s weapon crafting mechanics in order to make them. The description page says that users must acquire parts for each firearm, such as frame, barrel, receiver, etc. and that they must assemble each part ready to be put together at a forge. It also says that some gold coins will need to be exchanged when crafting them, depending on ammo size and the overall power of the weapon.

There are so many ways for people to alter the game to their own end. While some mods make Skyrim look even better, and others improve performance or add new missions and assets, “Modern Weapons” seems to strike a balance between significantly adjusting the combat of the game, while also offering something that’s so anachronistic, that it borders on the amusing.

Considering Skyrim has near-infinite replayability, just from the vanilla version alone, the fact that there are so many interesting mods out there to expand the game further is astounding. It’s hard to know how Mirci33’s mod will affect the overall game until it’s played, but it seems like introducing guns into Skyrim is something that’s been a long time coming, and will likely entertain a lot of people who download and try it.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
