RELATED: Ways Tales From The Borderlands Ties Into The Main Games
It’s no secret that Borderlands loves loud and murderous characters, but on top of that, they love layers. NewTales from theBorderlands features layered characters, each with their motives and desires. It just so happens that most of these desires involve a bunch of murders of a ton of power.
7 Susan
Susan Coldwell is the embodiment of satirical corporations. She’s entirely heartless and has the qualities of a ruthless CEO that seems to be against the common people. She’s the CEO of Tediore, the gun manufacturing company that has some great weapons in the Borderlands franchise.
Susan plays an important role in NewTales from theBorderlands, and acts as the main antagonist, following in the footsteps of classic villains like Handsome Jack, the CEO of Hyperion.
6 Anu
There’s a great intellect with Anu, a scientist who works in the research and development team for the Atlas corporation. She may exhibit a lot of enthusiasm for her work, and an innate curiosity for the galaxy’s potential, but she is a worrier, and allows her fear and tense emotions to get the better of her sometimes, even if it is not her fault.
Anu may be prone to panic attacks, but that doesn’t stop her from doing what she thinks is right, and always puts her brother, Octavio, first. Anu is a smart woman with great business ventures and inventions just waiting for the release of a newBorderlands game.
5 Fran
Fran is the Froyo Queen and one that isn’t exactly on the sane side. Yet again, it’s hard to find someone completely ordinary in Borderlands, as the bizarre weaponry and hostile planets tend to do that to people, especially since Fran has reasonable aggression towards the world after someone shot a laser through her dessert store.

Fran has quite a few anger issues to sort through, but it never gets in her way of being a charismatic and sweet character, with an adoration for the crude and lewd. Even her hoverchair has some neat gadgets to use, making her a rather effective character and fighter.
4 TIMM-E
Robot companions are always a good laugh. Claptrap still seems to remain one of the flagship characters for the Borderlands franchise. Entering the ring in New Tales from the Borderlands’s stead is TIMM-E, a delightful and energetic robot companion who lives to be subservient, and the personal assistant to Atlas’ CEO, Rhys Strongfork.
TIMM-E will help in any way that he can and is not against being used as a seat for his stressed-out boss. His energy is always upbeat, and he seems to remain optimistic. It’s safe to say that Claptrap would not like TIMM-E.
3 Octavio
Whereas Anu has the book smarts, Octavio has the street smarts. Octavio learned everything he could as a child on the streets of Promethean and uses his charisma and hype to con, steal and get himself out of sticky situations. One such situation saw the snagging of a brand new and expensive ECHOdex, with a great ability to hack.
Despite his street smarts, Octavio dreams of a better life. The character wants to be a success in the corporate world, just like Rhys was in his game. Octavio’s choices are mainly decided by the player, but a lot of them involve his sister and friends, showing that he is a loyal and loving person. He’s also not entirely afraid of danger and will risk himself for the promise of safety for the ones he loves.
2 Rhys
As another CEO of a powerful corporation, Rhys knows, tries, and sometimes fails to prove his worth amongst the big leagues. He’s the ambitious youngster with a daring mustache in charge of the Atlas corporation. Audiences who played Tales from the Borderlands will remember this character as one of the protagonists, meaning that they’ve seen how far his character has come.

Although he’s a strict boss, he’s still fairly lovable. Rhys has many notable moments across the Borderlands franchise, and it’s good to see him shine as one of the best Borderlands characters here.
1 LOU13
Everyone loves robots in video games. Especially when they seem as crazed as the rest of humanity, if not more so. LOU13 is a debonair assassination robot in New Tales from the Borderlands and acts as a good ally for the characters, especially Octavio. His moral compass is bizarre, and he will shoot anyone with a bounty, regardless of their usefulness, yet he completely objects to stealing.
LOU13 is a great weapons artist and had instant access to a database of every known bounty in the galaxy. Despite his life of murder, LOU13 loves comedy and loves making people laugh. Pursuing a side career in comedy, it is hard not to root for the lovable robot.
New Tales From the Borderlands is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
