RELATED: Ways Tales From The Borderlands Ties Into The Main Games

Easter eggs are a great way to keep audiences paying attention and to test their pop culture knowledge. When it comes to NewTales From theBorderlands, there are plenty of easter eggs that die-hard fans of the series will notice. NewTales From theBorderlands will give players interesting insights into the looter-shooter franchise.

7 Rhys’ Handsome Jack Hologram

Throughout the game, the characters of Anu, Octavio, and Fran will be in communication with Rhys. Rhys was one of the protagonists in the first Tales From the Borderlands games and was the CEO of Atlas for Borderlands 3 and New Tales From the Borderlands. His role in the game is rather fun, but he is often seen as a hologram, with a blue static glow to his body.

Although this is merely the way characters communicate via hologram, players can’t help but notice the reference to Handsome Jack. Throughout Tales From theBorderlands, Rhys partners with the untrustworthy Handsome Jack AI, the most iconic Borderlands villain, who has the same blue glow.

6 Metal Gear Box

When Fran, Anu, and Octavio require a stealth segment in New Tales From the Borderlands, Octavio has the bright idea of hiding in an ammo box. He reasons that as long as he stands still when the guards turn around, they will not notice a large box seemingly teleporting closer and closer every single time they turn around.

It’s a fun reference to Metal Gear Solid, in which characters like Solid Snake will use an iconic cardboard box to sneak around in stealth. Even the camera angles change for this segment, becoming more about the originally fixed cameras of Metal Gear Solid.

5 Mister Torgue

In a meeting with the Tediore corporation, Mister Torgue can be seen as a blue hologram as he witnesses Susan’s powerful new demonstration of Tediore’s experimental weaponry. Sadly, Mister Torgue doesn’t have much to say in this scene, considering he has been placed on mute.

It’s no surprise that Torgue has been placed on mute, as he is extremely loud, and has a love for all things that explode. He’s a fan-favorite Borderlands character for his unapologetic charisma and extremely muscular physique.

4 Sasha On Rhys’ Desk

Upon Rhys’ desk at his Atlas CEO office, players will be able to spot a framed photo of Sasha. Sasha was one of the main characters in Tales From the Borderlands and acted as Fiona’s sister. Her fate is decided by the player, but the majority chose that Sasha ends up as the love interest to Rhys. This framed photo makes sense, considering by the time of New Tales From the Borderlands, the two would be in a relationship.

Hopefully, this framed photo means that the two are together, and not that Rhys is an obsessive creep. The photo takes up a lot of Rhys’ empty desk space and further binds the Borderlands franchise with yet another reference to a Tales From theBorderlands character.

3 Hidden QR Code

During the final episode of New Tales From the Borderlands, the trusted companion of Timm-E will point to a sign that reads “Friend Code” towards a piece of cardboard with a QR code. Borderlands is no stranger to secret QR codes, and this is just the newest addition to the series. However, the QR code is something interesting.

The QR code can be scanned, and it will take players to a hidden and unlisted video on Gearbox Software’s YouTube channel. This video is the original music that was made for the Katagawa Ball battle in Borderlands 3. It’s a favorite track of many, and a fun way to find the piece of music.

2 Vaultlander Figures

Action figures are popular collector’s items amongst certain communities, and it seems the populous of Borderlands is no different. Throughout the game, players can explore to find Vaultlander Figures in New Tales From the Borderlands. These figures can be used in a fun minigame in which action figures battle each other.

As for the action figures, players will be looking for, they are all iconic characters from previous Borderlands games. It seems that the Vault Hunters of Pandora have become quite famous, with their figure line to follow them, like Salvador and Handsome Jack.

1 Athena

Amongst other boardroom members that witness the new power of Tediore is Athena. This character is also seen in a blue hologram, with her Borderlands: The Presequel character model. She sports her usual attire and says not a word as she witnesses the goings-on of the meeting. Athena is a popular character from previous Borderlands games.

She appeared in the first Borderlands, with her story coming to a seeming conclusion in Tales from theBorderlands, as she revealed in the game that she will be getting married to Janey Springs.

New Tales From the Borderlands is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
