Telltale Games went bankrupt in 2018 leaving behind a complicated legacy. The rights to Tales from the Borderlands eventually found their way into the hands of 2K; the publisher of the main Borderlands games. The publisher has since put Gearbox to work on a new game and information on it has steadily been leaking. For example, a new rating for New Tales from the Borderlands was listed with the ESRB earlier this summer, although, at the time, it wasn’t clear if it was for the new game or a re-release of the original game. Now, however, the release date for New Tales from the Borderlands game has found its way online as well.

In addition to the ESRB rating, story details for New Tales from the Borderlands leaked online earlier this month. The story of the first season focused primarily on two characters named Rhys and Fiona, who were trying to succeed Handsome Jack after the events of Borderlands 2. The upcoming sequel, however, will reportedly not focus on the two of them and will instead center on a set of new characters. It is currently unknown whether Rhys and Fiona will appear in the upcoming game in any way.

Despite all of these leaks, 2K and Gearbox have yet to officially reveal anything new from New Tales from the Borderlands though the game’s numerous leaks seem to indicate that it is far along in its development process. Tales from the Borderlands also has an official Adult rating for the country of South Korea, meaning that the company is also gearing up for its full international release. It does, however, seem odd that 2K would hold off on making any official announcement so close to the game’s apparent release date. Whether the leaked date holds true, remains to be seen.

New Tales from the Borderlands is scheduled for 2022.
