Skybound and Chinese publisher Elex only announced the title last month, with a vague release window of this summer. However, Elex confirmed earlier today that Survivors will in fact release in less than a week’s time on April 12th. Pre-registration is currently available in both the US and UK and, according to Elex, there are already at least 1.5 million fans who have signed up and are ready and waiting to jump into the game once it launches.

As a reminder, Survivors tasks players with building and fortifying their own settlements and protecting from walkers, bandits, and other players. Various characters from across the Walking Dead franchise can be recruited, with Elex promising over 80 of them plus entirely new characters, and these Survivors are divided into Combat and Development classes, with the former being more suited to fighting with invading enemies while the latter can better fortify the settlement and improve its defenses.
Elexe has even provided a short list of some of the characters that will most likely be included from launch. Obviously, protagonist Rick Grimes will make an appearance, armed with a rifle, axe, and damage increasing skills. Other Combat Survivors include Glen (who is more focused on defense) and Beta (whose skills can trigger extra attack damage). On the Development side, there’s Maggie (her skills increase production rate and speeds) and medic Hershel (he can increase healing speed and hospital capacity).
Aside from defending the town from enemies, players will need to explore the surrounding area to unlock new locations, characters, and resources to further develop the town. And while there are PvP elements, players must also work together and form clans in order to fight back against series antagonist Negan and his gang of Saviors.
Depending on how successful and popular the game is, it could continue to receive support even after the show wraps up next year. Not only that, but there are still multiple Walking Dead products in development. Rick is supposed to be getting three entire movies chronicling his adventures after exiting the series and at least two spin-off Walking Dead shows, one an anthology and another focused on Carol and Daryl.
The Walking Dead: Survivors releases for Android and iOS on April 12th.
