Since its initial Japanese arcade launch in 2012, Under Night In-Birth has made the leap out West onto PlayStation consoles and PC. With its rise in popularity and expansion to more and more platforms, the 2D fighting series has seen numerous character additions, updates, and sequels.

Aksys Games announced that acclaimed fighting game studio French Bread is returning to develop Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r], which is slated for release in early 2020. And while the studio has yet to officially announce which platforms the game is coming to, a leak of the game earlier this year listed ratings for PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. In addition to a potential new platform in the Nintendo Switch, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] will be adding a brand new playable character named Londrekia, whose moveset and playstyle can be seen in the game’s announcement trailer.
In the press release for the game, Asksys Games CEO Akibo Shieh was grateful for the support the series has received:
According to Aksys Games, this new entry will include “nearly a thousand balance changes and new moves.” And for those looking to get their hands on the new game before its release, a demo will be available at upcoming special events – which will likely be specified by Arc System Works and Aksys Games in the future.
For Nintendo fans who have yet to try the Under Night: In-Birth series, early 2020 appears to be a good jumping on point – if the game does come to Switch as the previous leak suggests. And for established fans, balance changes and a single new character might not sound like the splashiest selling points, but competitive fighting game fans know just how essential finely-tuned balances are in a game like this.
Under Night: In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] is slated for release in early 2020. Publishers Arc System Works and Aksys Games have yet to confirm which platforms the game is coming to.
