The original Call of Duty: Warzone was co-developed by Infinity Ward and Raven Software, launching shortly after Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. By the release of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2020, Raven Software was then credited as the game’s solo developer. Developers from both Infinity Ward and Raven Software admitted they were not prepared to deliver live service content efficiently, and Activision has worked hard to improve that since.

With both Infinity Ward and Raven Software developing Call of Duty: Warzone 2, there was some question as to whether other studios would continue to be used to support the battle royale’s ongoing development. A job listing posted by Treyarch for a Senior Level Designer lists in its description that the position will work on Call of Duty: Warzone building maps. Call of Duty: Warzone isn’t the only game listed, as Outbreak and “other large map experiences” are also mentioned, though.
The job listing is supporting evidence for an earlier claim by Call of Duty leaker TheGhostofHope. Hope previously said in October that Treyarch is leading map design for a new Call of Duty: Warzone’s 2 map. They think this new job listing from Treyarch may be related, though there’s no clear indication of that.
Even if Treyarch is developing a map for Call of Duty: Warzone 2, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s doing so alone or that there are plans for Treyarch to take on an even larger role working on the battle royale. Part of Hope’s claim is that other “support studios” are helping Treyarch by making and placing assets. In other words, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 continues to be a multi-studio project much like the original game grew into.
It will be some time before this new map, made by Treyarch or otherwise, will be delivered for Call of Duty: Warzone 2. It’s said to be planned for 2024, to launch alongside Treyarch’s next major Call of Duty game. As such, it can be seen as a routine update for Call of Duty: Warzone 2, coming as part of the battle royale’s planned live service content.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
