RELATED: New World: Where To Find Aged Wood

However, assembling goods in New World is not quite as easy as just crafting raw wood into finished products, as players will need to refine specific kinds of wood from other components harvested in the world’s many forests. This crucial middle step is what the Woodworking skill represents and leveling it up will make players more capable of crafting higher tiers of refined wood. The ideal way to plan out one’s forestry pursuits is to identify the kind of wood that one will need and how to acquire it.

Updated on October 22, 2021, by Reyadh Rahaman: The usage of harvesting skills, as well as refining skills, are often very important for a few different crafting skills that require processed materials instead of raw ones. In regards to needing a great deal of wood, the Furnishing and Engineering skills are the most tree-thirsty, and, as such, dedicated woodworkers will likely find themselves attracted to such skills.

Alternatively, those that aren’t can find some good trades with those who are into Furnishing or Engineering, as they will need lots of wood for their crafting goals. This means that there will always be a market that woodworkers can take advantage of when looking to sell unneeded planks.

About Wyrdwood Planks

This is where the naming conventions of New World can get a bit tricky, as some terms begin to seem like they are interchangeable, even though they are not. Players must gather raw Wyrdwood from relatively rare Wyrdwood Trees, however, players will need to combine this raw resource with Lumber at a Woodshop to create the refined product known as Wyrdwood Planks.

Ironwood Planks

About Ironwood Planks

Much like with Wyrdwood Planks, Ironwood Planks and their component, Ironwood, are linked by name. Players must chop down hard-to-find Ironwood Trees to get the Ironwood needed to make these Tier 5 planks.

About Glittering Ebony

Despite also being a Tier 5 refined resource, just like Ironwood Planks, Glittering Ebony will be much harder to acquire as it not only requires fairly high-tier components but also resources that are random drops. It should be mentioned that both Barbvine and Wildwood can be obtained as rare loot from Ironwood Trees, so players will need to cut down a ton of this less-seen forest species.

How Woodworking Affects Furnishing & Engineering

Selling Refined Wood To Those Who Like Furnishing & Engineering

After gathering up a bunch of refined wood, players may be wondering what to do with it all. If money is needed, players can find a decent market for refined wood–especially higher tiers like Ironwood Planks and Glittering Ebony, as there are lots of players who specialize in Furnishing and Engineering who don’t want to cut down or refine wood themselves. This is a product of New World having quite a few crafting skills available.

While it’s likely that many pursuing Furnishing and Engineering goals have had to do some Woodcutting and Woodworking to get where they are, higher-level players are more likely to spend gold on materials than seek such goods out themselves due to being unwilling to take themselves away from their favorite kinds of crafting.

Getting Into Furnishing & Engineering

If players wish to see their refined wood goods put to proper usage themselves, one can delve into the Furnishing and Engineering skills, as these are the two skills that use the most refined wood. All of the planks that players make while Woodworking can be used in some fashion or other when crafting furniture. In addition to assembling lovely pieces of furniture to decorate one’s home, gamers can also create items like trophies or incense which can grant powerful passive buffs.

Engineering is a bit more complex, as are the goods that can be made with this skill, however, players should know that both Furnishing and Engineering use the Workshop type of workstation to put things together, so be sure to locate one of these if one wants to build interesting items.

New World is available on Microsoft Windows.
