Players can pick up a blunderbuss as a drop from an enemy, buy one from their faction quartermaster, or be rewarded one for a completed quest. One other option would be to craft a blunderbuss, and it’s an easy process. Some distinctive blunderbuss weapons can be crafted at higher levels, so players that want to use the blunderbuss as one of their main weapons should also prioritize leveling up their Engineering skills.
The Blunderbuss
One of the newest additions to the New World armory, the blunderbuss has been available to characters since March of 2022. It’s less precise than other ranged weapons, such as the bow or musket, but has more useful abilities at close range.
The two branches of the Blunderbuss Mastery Tree are Containment and Chaos, with the titles describing their basic strengths and weaknesses. Containment is more about crowd control and precise strikes and Chaos specializes in AoE damage.
Crafting A Blunderbuss
One thing that everyone always liked about New World was the crafting options. The process is designed to be intuitive and the resources and recipes are clearly listed regardless of the skill or character level.
Find A Workshop. Crafting a Common quality blunderbuss, the lowest level available, requires a Workshop of at least Tier II. For weapons of Uncommon quality or higher, a Tier IV Workshop or higher is needed. Materials Required. The exact details will vary depending on the recipe, but every blunderbuss needs some variation of metal, wood, and leather. Some crafted weapons of Rare or Epic quality require materials that can only be found in Expeditions or as drops from elite enemies. Skill Level. The player can craft a Common Iron Blunderbuss from the moment they walk into town at level 0, provided they have the materials, and even use it to grind up their Engineering skill level. Everything needed for this weapon can also be gathered or harvested at low skill levels or purchased from the Trading Post.
Crafted Blunderbuss Weapons
Players that want to level using a blunderbuss can take advantage of the Crafting options available in the Workshop. Rare and Epic blunderbuss weapons are also craftable provided their Engineering skill is high enough and the Workshop is at the correct Tier level.
Starmetal Blunderbuss. Raise the Engineering skill to 100 and find some higher quality metal to craft this Common blunderbuss. Add extra perks and Azoth for better chances at Perks and gem slots. Shipyard Sentinel’s Blunderbuss. As the name suggests, this weapon of Uncommon quality can only be crafted with special items that drop in the Dynasty Shipyard, a level 55 Expedition located in the Ebonscale Territory. Also required is an Engineering skill of 110 and a Tier IV Workshop. Exorciser 4000. A weapon of Rare quality that players need an Engineering skill of 149 to make, the Exorciser 4000 isn’t made with drops from instances or bosses but special items gained by harvesting resources in the wild. Tempestuous Poetry. An Epic level item of Tier IV quality that requires some rare items to craft, players will need an Engineering skill of at least 149 to make this weapon and they also must be at least level 54 to equip and use it.
