The new Xbox Series X gamepad sticks to the general design and aesthetic sensibilities of the existing Xbox One controller, but brings updated ergonomics and a new directional pad that takes design cues from the adjustable d-pad included on the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller.

Microsoft’s new gamepad also takes a cue from Sony’s DualShock 4 for the PlayStation 4 by bringing Xbox players a dedicated share button for recording gameplay and taking screenshots, allowing fans to capture their greatest moments without taking them out of their games.

Previous comments from Microsoft on the Xbox Series X’s controller support indicated that the console’s gamepad would stick closely to the design and capabilities of the Xbox One controller, as the new gamepad will be supported on Xbox One consoles on launch in addition to the Series X. Fans will also be able to bring their current-gen Xbox controllers, including both Xbox Elite gamepad, forward with full support for the new console.

The final design of the Xbox Series X was also unveiled at the Game Awards, as well as an early trailer for Hellblade II from Xbox Game Studios developer Ninja Theory.
